Come up with a July theme for denisebrain, win a prize!

Each month, I do a little promo for my website (themes on its homepage).

Here’s the thing: I don’t yet have a theme for July, and I’d love your help. The theme has to give me an opportunity to show off vintage clothing, but it doesn't have to be about vintage clothing. (Last July, for instance, I did Go Fishin’). I almost always put the theme to music, if that helps you think of something, and I often show something tied to the season. One small hint: I’m not super eager to do something involving Independence Day just because it comes so early in the month, and I want the theme to have an all-July feel.

I’m open to your suggestions by way of comments to this post, and will also take suggestions on Facebook. On June 25 I’ll choose the one I like best (and think I can pull off!) and the person who made the suggestion will win a $25 allowance to spend at denisebrain (web store, Etsy store or eBay) AND will get to see the idea in action!

If you want to see some of my previous themes, visit the denisebrain theme-o-matic .

"Hot Child in the City"
"Stars & Stripes Forever"- would love to see the clothes you could come up with there!
"Some Like it Hot"- Probably my fave Marilyn movie--filmed at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. A lot of directions you can go w/ that! ...and I'll keep thinking...

Oh how fun! Thanks for the contest, darling. ;-)
Here are a few I just thought of with only 1 cuppa java in me.
Leisa - nowandthenstyle

Theme: "Hot Fun in the Summertime" - w/ the same-titled Sly & the Family Stone song as your music. Any & All summer garments would suit this.

"Summertime" (George Gershwin)
Theme: "The Livin' is Easy". You could highlight Day Dresses, Loungewear, rompers, or anything cool & comfy. Swimwear, even.

"Heat Wave" (Martha & the Vandellas)
Theme: same as song title Swimwear, sleeveless dresses, shorts, etc.

"Summertime Blues" (Eddie Cochran)
Theme: same as song title
Anything anti-authority or blue. Hippie Chic or your most unique items, or All shades of Blues.

"Hot Stuff" - Donna Summer disco song

This is fun. Have to run now, but will try to come up with some more when I get back home.

How about "Christmas in July"? You know the proverbial mattress sales and white sales for that retail schtick.

What about Clambake a la Elvis?

Born on the Bayou?

Casablanca?

County Fair something?

Hi M!

My suggestion is:

Song: Cotton Candy (and a Toy Balloon) by Dinah Shore

Theme: Covers all things for a care-free summer - merry go rounds, tunnel of love, strutting your stuff etc.

Vintage Wear Theme - Cotton dresses, scarves, sunglasses. Cute purses too. Did I mention scarves? You would have to have a scarf on a roller-coaster, ya know.

Fun, fun old song with such a vintage flair, plus not something you hear every day. Unique.

Hope things are well in you neck of the woods.

I so enjoy you blog - thank you!

I'd like to see you go totally old school, with no central air conditioning, for July.

Old Vegas, lots of late fifties/early sixties stylish day and evening glam, and Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind" playing in the background.

(It took my Mother a whole lot of mad skills to keep her day and night looks together in hot, hot July.)

Hello, This was my first time checking out your blog. Love it! Just a little impartial though, my name is Denise as well.

What about Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince playing and trying to mix a little hip-hop style with vintage looks?(I have been known to try)Some suggestions are the Kangol caps that were huge in the 1980s, as were the pillbox(albeit leather) hats, missy elliots finger waves, lil-kims pageboy flip(neon) in Crush On You. Having been born in 1970 raised in the bronx then, hip-hop is in me.
I adore vintage fashion but always like to twist it a bit, otherwise I feel too costumey.
