Another lovely post - some great MM quotes there. I love the one about dogs never biting her...as a young wife she once brought a cow into her home because it was raining. She had a natural affinity with animals I think.
Thanks Nicole...I loved reading your post about Marilyn too. I didn't really care for Marilyn when I was young because she didn't seem the model of the strong woman I wanted to be. Her weaknesses now seem to me to be her inability to reconcile her working life with her inner life, which only occasionally overlapped. I now love her for the wonderfully talented actress she was along with the golden lady, as you called her, that she became. I am so sad for what brought her down. She was so much more than she is known to be, and it is tragic that we made her into no more than we did.
I couldn't agree more, Maggie - I think what first attracted me was her vulnerability, her sense of loneliness. The quotes you've picked illustrate how disconnected she must have felt from people's (mens?) expectation of her. Her life was a hard one, and ended very sadly.
It irks me that anyone could seriously think that she had killed herself, and the evidence has always pointed elsewhere...
